about me

My name is Basil & I am a photographer based in Melbourne, Australia.

I spent much of my youth between the Middle East and Africa, an experience that shaped both my worldview and the way I see life through the lens. Growing up as a third-culture kid and, in many ways, a nomad, has been central to my development as a photographer. It continues to fuel my desire to share the authentic stories of people from around the world and the places that connect them.

Since moving to Australia, I have been particularly drawn to the narratives within the African-Australian community. Working alongside community members and organisations, I aim to capture their lived experiences and preserve their stories.

Qyserr [kay - ser] or قيصر in Arabic is a nickname I was given in Sudan.

It is the Arabic equivalent of Caesar or Kaiser (in German).
